With the takeoff of flight AV1604 from the Mariscal Sucre International Airport at 06:14 today, Avianca began its operations between Quito and Cuenca, thus increasing air connectivity. The airline will operate 6 weekly flights, which represents more than 7,000 monthly seats available on modern Airbus A320 aircraft.

“This new route is a positive response to a request that many clients have had: to fly to Cuenca. Today, we offer operations to 7 cities within Ecuador, which are added to the more than 90 destinations in the Americas and Europe that are part of our route network. We know that our operation will boost tourism and therefore the economic development of the two cities,” said María Beatriz González, Avianca's commercial manager at the route's inauguration event.

During the opening ceremony, the Minister of Transport and Public Works, Marcelo Cabrera, highlighted that these actions will boost the economy and tourism in Cuenca, and in addition, there will be a greater offer of flights for users. "This initiative shows that the national government works on air connectivity and open skies policies that guarantee safe passage for all travelers," he said.

The mayor of Cuenca, Pedro Palacios, noted that Avianca’s operation is the result of the management carried out as the city’s Municipal Corporation, with the objective to improve connectivity for city. "From our first day we have worked for the benefit of the families in Cuenca; today we see the result of this joint work which will allows more visitors to come to Santa Ana de los Ríos de Cuenca, to admire its beauty and be part of the economic reactivation”, the mayor pointed out.

Ramón Miró, president and CEO of Corporación Quiport, operator and manager of Quito's Mariscal Sucre Airport, congratulated Avianca for the opening of the new route between Quito and Cuenca. “Ecuador requires greater internal connectivity to reactivate local tourism and business.
