Quito, December 3, 2016. A new milestone in connectivity was reached early on 3 December with the inaugural flight of low-cost airline Wingo on the Quito – Bogota route. There was a celebratory atmosphere at Mariscal Sucre Airport before the first passengers boarded the new flight, which will join both capital cities with four weekly flights on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Quito becomes one of 16 cities in 10 countries in which the airline operates.

As is customary at Quito Airport, Corporación Quiport celebrated this occasion with the passengers and executives of Wingo, declaring the inauguration of the new flight and offering the passengers a light dinner before boarding.

The new Mariscal Sucre International Airport was inaugurated on February 20, 2013 and in just three years and nine months of operation it has strengthened the connectivity of Quito, attracting new airlines and expanding its network of destinations and availability of seats for travel. These efforts, together with the excellent quality of its services, and safe and efficient operations, have placed it among the leaders of the region.

In a statement by the airline, Catalina Bretón, General Manager of Wingo, indicates “our low prices and extensive network of routes are the perfect combination for all those wanting a happy, fresh and budget travel experience. We will focus our efforts on maintaining excellent prices, ensuring that our flights comply with the established itineraries and that our travelers have a great experience they will want to share, recommend and repeat”.

Additionally, Catalina Bretón states that Ecuador is an attractive market which can help it gain a stronger position on the international stage. She believes that it is a strategic destination due to its tourism development which has led it to become one of the principal options for tourists on a global scale. Bretón mentions that there is a significant volume of business people, traders and entrepreneurs who will value the opportunity to expand their businesses or attend business meetings without having to buy an expensive airfare.
